Delbarton School commissioned Crane Assoc. to upgrade the facility's emergency power systems to ensure safe, modernized technology in the event of any critical situations at the ground's facilities including the Benedictine Monastery, church, retreat center, private high school academy, or various sports centers.

PROJECT BRIEF

Crane began this project by assessing the current status of the electrical system and identifying the scope of work necessary to upgrade the entire emergency system. The school's existing electrical system consisted of an outdated 13.2KV - 4.16KV, 7 MVA substation fed from a PSE&G utility feeder and a 5.3MVA co-generation plant located on the campus grounds. Approximately 40 buildings are serviced by the electrical system via nine radial feeders. Crane performed an electrical infrastructure study and report to determine existing conditions and made recommendations for improved reliability due to previously proposed expansions and alterations to the campus.

While working closely with Delbarton, CA established a plan to install a new concrete foundation including necessary structural fill and site grading, as well as a new decorative masonry retaining wall to complete this area.

Electrical work included installation of a new 600 KW diesel stand-by generator, a new 1600 ampere, outdoor transfer switch and modifications to the existing indoor switchboard. Miscellaneous underground conduit installation was also completed to ensure a safe, secure and updated emergency system protecting all present on campus.
